I write this weeks blog post from Adelaide where I am heading to a conference in the Barossa – not a bad place for a conference I thought! I arrived a couple of days early as I have not been to Adelaide before and wanted to check the place out. Pretty cool city, a bit like Melbourne or a European city, the traffic is less and the streets are wide and there are lots of parks and formal gardens – the perfect spot to stop and smell the roses!
What I really wanted to get into was that sometimes we get so wrapped up in our business, job, hobbies etc that we forget to slow down and stop and smell the roses. I want you to just stop for a second and think about why you are here? What do you want from your life? Do you enjoy the work you do? What are you passionate about? These factors all make up your goals and the path for your life. Things will not always work out the way you intended along the path – but sometimes the path opens up other opportunities and in turn amazing experiences.
The reason I was thinking about this as I had a walk through the paths of the Adelaide Botanical Gardens this morning was that it was so calming. To stop and smell the roses and appreciate all the plants, hear the birds sing and not be drowned out by the sounds of the city. Don’t get me wrong I love the city – but the quiet and fresh air resets the mind and allows you to reset yourself and open your mind to other thoughts. This is why each time I go away for for business I like to add a couple of days on at the start or finish of the agenda. It allows me time to reflect on what is important and the things I need to focus on.
It also gives me some time to think about everything that I am grateful for. We often overlook the things that keep us going every day, the small things that we never really consider but make our world so much better. From our physical health to the love of our kids, from our favourite shoes to our recently booked holiday, all of these these things we need to stop and be grateful for. A life full of gratitude is a full life!
This blog was a little different from the others I write, but it’s important to reflect and open your thinking to what is most important to you. It is different for everyone, for me it is my family and holiday experiences, for you it might be excelling in your chosen sport or perfecting your signature cheesecake – what ever makes you happy.
If some of those things are more time, freedom to make your own choices, holidays, spending time with family and having financial freedom then here at Blue Wave we want to help. We can chat with you about how to free up your money creating more time to be able to focus on what makes to happy.
